Razer Saves PC Gaming
Updated
Editor’s note: I originally authored and published the below post on a now defunct site called “The Cool Ship,” where it ran on January 11, 2012. Enjoy this reprised content!
When PC gaming accessory maker, Razer, watches Star Wars, it hears, “help me Razer, you are my only hope,” and apparently it thinks Leia represents the PC gaming community. Now Razer will be restoring the supposed disturbance in the force with their latest unveiling, Project Fiona.
I have to hand it to Razer, this tablet makes handheld gaming systems look like toys, the lot of them. If the point was to put PSP and DS handhelds to shame, well, mission accomplished. The point, though, is to save PC gaming from dying. From Razer’s facebook post, here is what they hype, “While the PC Giants have stopped innovating for the PC – we intend to continue doing so for you - the PC gamer.”
I assume the PC giants are Intel, AMD, EA and Activision, right? I mean, that’s who designs and publishes the hardware and games that make up a large percentage of the PC gaming experience. So why then are they packing an Intel Core i7 in their prototype gaming tablet? This isn’t a complaint, just a needlessly wordy statement pointing out the double sided wording from Razer.
On paper I guess this tablet looks amazing, considering it’s basically the Razer Blade but without either the keyboard or the portability. For $1000 and the specs it has, I would buy no other tablet. But would I take it on the bus? To school or work? Uh…
On the youtube video, the tablet is shown playing games like Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Hawx 2, so in theory you could run insert-your-pc-game-here on it until your battery died. You know that’s going to be an issue. Also, where is the USB port for plugging in my Razer Tron gaming mouse and a keyboard? Oh you didn’t think bluetooth would be fast enough did you Razer? Please.

The real question is, will this massive tablet save PC gaming from death by (sales) freeze ray? I could never answer that myself, so I’m depending on the tech savvy readers of the cool ship to comment below. Please note that according to Razer, this is just a concept and they won’t consider making it unless there is enough interest. The fate of Project Fiona rests in your hands.
Is Razer strong in the force?
